Spain’s Essential Wine Identity
Red is the color of Spain—their national fútbol team is called La Furia Roja, clad in red, and Spain’s wine industry is no different. Perhaps no country in the world produces as many top-tier, complex reds at reasonable prices. This set includes three bottles that span Spanish wine production—including a cellar-aged Gran Reserva that’s perfect special-occasion fare.
Set Includes:
We went to Spain to score this Gran Reserva
2007 Bodegas Manzanos Gran Reserva Rioja
The 2007 Bodegas Manzanos is exactly what you want from an aged Gran Reserva. Ruby-garnet in color, it’s got a beautifully developed nose of plum liqueur, smashed black raspberries, licorice, faint olive and dried lavender. It’s soft and enveloping on the palate, with resolved, silky tannins, yet it shows plenty of energy.
96-point quality for a fraction of the price of the competition.
2018 Bodegas Trus Crianza Ribera del Duero Spain
A 100% Tempranillo drawn off five high-altitude sites, the Bodegas Trus scored 96 points in Decanter’s World Wine Awards—but costs a mere fraction of its competition! “A plush and fabulous expression of variety and provenance,” raved the judges. The highest praise may have come from our own wine team, who couldn’t stop at a single sip…or glass.
94pt, beautifully concentrated Spanish red
2022 Laudum Roble Monastrell & Syrah Alicante
Ounce for ounce, Spanish Monastrell (Mourvèdre) makes some of the most concentrated red wine out there—especially when it comes from the warm, dry, intensely sunny Alicante region. Laudum took that concentration, added a splash of spicy Syrah, and molded it into a wine of balance, structure, and silky tannins.
