Raises the Bar for Rosé Bubbly Value

Paltrinieri has long crafted some of Italy’s finest sparkling rosé, and their 2023 Piria is one of the greatest bubbly values you’ll find.

Wine Enthusiast noticed, too, bestowing a 94-point score and “Best Buy” honors on the bottle, which is perfect to take to parties, to pop with pizza, or to give a few to wine-loving friends.

If the word “Lambrusco” conjures visions of the sweet wine of yesteryear for you, think again. This lovely frizzante is enticingly dry and vibrant, from the aromas of grapefruit and peach, dressed with ocean breezes, ginger, spice, and rhubarb, through the exhilarating palate to the long, energetic finish. It’s precisely why Vinous has described modern iterations of this variety—especially ones from Sorbara—as “delicate, elegant expressions.”

Lambrusco is crafted throughout Italy’s Emilia-Romagna region, and few appellations there are as respected as Sorbara. Decanter has praised wines from the Lambrusco di Sorbara DOP as “ethereal” and almost Champagne-like. Over the past decade or so, these dry, terroir-specific sparklings have become some of the best values in all of Europe—and Decanter singled out Paltrinieri as one of the most important producers.

The Paltrinieri family has been a leader in the region since 1926. Now, under the fourth-generation leadership of Alberto and Barbara Paltrinieri, the wines are as delicious as ever. Paltrinieri’s Piria is crafted in the metodo Martinotti, commonly used for Prosecco, where the wine re-ferments and carbonates in tank. The result is a fresh and elegant bubbly—one that’s easy to enjoy on its own or with anything from fresh pasta to fried foods to sushi.
