The Story

The 2015 vintage was one of Champagne’s finest this century, and in it, Dom Pérignon produced a legend of a bottle. It’s “terrific,” in the words of Vinous’s Antonio Galloni, while Wine Advocate hailed it as “singular, ethereal” in their fawning review. This icon of luxury is brilliant now, with the bones to blossom even further in your cellar.

James Suckling

A super-complex Champagne with chewy tension. Aromas of coffee beans, lemon peel, burnt sugar, chalky minerality, barley candy and tarte tatin. Fine pinprick bubbles with flavors of lemon leaves, aspirin and Mirabelle plums, plus a touch of grapefruit bitterness keeping the tension. Zesty yet integrated chewy acidity and a medium body with a toasted finish. Drink of hold.

The 2015 Dom Perignon pours a bright straw/yellow color and is expressive and layered on the nose with a tropical profile in its notes of cantaloupe, peach, fresh pastry, smokey wet stones, and orange blossoms. Medium to full-bodied, it offers a rounded and ripe but very well-detailed feel, with a soft, chalky texture. This was a very successful vintage for Dom Perignon, producing wines that retain a great deal of clarity and detail in this warm vintage. Drink over the coming 20 years.

Wine Spectator

There's a well-spiced, zesty edge to the flavors of glazed apple, mandarin orange peel, pink grapefruit pith and crème de cassis as they ride the finely detailed mousse of this fresh, focused Champagne. This vivid display is enriched by notes of canelé pastry, chopped almond, pastry cream, smoke and vanilla, all coming to the forefront through the midpalate and chiming on the lasting finish. Drink now through 2035.

Vinous

The 2015 Dom Pérignon is super-expressive today. The first signs of aromatic development have begun to appear, suggesting the 2015 is slowly heading into its first plateau of maturity. Light tropical accents mingle with savory undertones. The 2015 is elegant, medium in body and super-expressive. I imagine the 2015 will mature a touch early by the maison's standards. It is a total delight today, however.

Wine Advocate

Disgorged in January 2023, the 2015 Dom Pérignon shows a singular, ethereal profile with aromas of white pepper, iodine, ripe orchard fruits, toast, smoke, herbs and spices. Medium to full-bodied, layered, and structured, it’s enveloping and round with a delicate phenolic mid-palate that underlines chalky dry extracts, concluding with a sapid, penetrating finish with gastronomic bitterness. This iteration of Dom Pérignon, though replete with the customary charm and vinous generosity that typify the label, distinguishes itself by its structural delicate austerity and a notably phenolic profile, giving rise to a remarkably linear and well-defined style that diverges markedly from the more familiar expressions of Dom Pérignon. This is a blend of 51% Pinot Noir and 49% Chardonnay with a dosage of 4.5 grams per liter; it will age wonderfully and can be enjoyed now or over the next 20 years.

The Icon of Luxury

Dom Pérignon is “quite possibly the most iconic wine in Champagne, and perhaps the world,” wrote Antonio Galloni. It’s the bubbly of Marilyn Monroe, it was poured at Princess Diana’s wedding, and it embodies luxury.

Dom achieved its glamorous status by being one of the greatest, most ageworthy wines in Champagne. It remains among Champagne’s most rigorously made wines, selected from the finest grapes and vineyards and emerging only after the best growing seasons. And in 2015—one of the best Champagne vintages of the 21st century—the team at Dom Pérignon made a legendary wine.

Despite commanding one of France’s most famous and lavishly funded exports, legendary Chef de Cave Richard Geoffroy is known for thinking like a small, independent grower, with an avowed habit of taking risks and pushing the envelope. Comparing vintages of Dom Pérignon to “the experimental, searching spirit that defines so many of the smaller-production, artisan Champagnes being made today,” Antonio Galloni pronounced Geoffroy’s efforts to be “nothing short of magnificent.”

In this 2015, a luminous pale gold color and vibrant mousse decorate the glass. The aromas are dominated by freshly zested Sicilian lemon, candied ginger, green apple, and almond. The palate is complete, with great acidity and fruit, gifted with a long-lasting finish. Bright, focused, and structured, it’s truly a wine like no other.

This wine is from one of Richard Geoffroy’s final vintages at the helm—he retired from Dom in 2018—and it expresses one of Champagne’s greatest vintages of the decade. It’s delicious now, but has the bones to age brilliantly in your cellar.
