Story
Vintners the world over agree that Sonoma Coast practices "winemaking on the edge of the possible." Allowing the grapes to ripen slowly in the rocky fog-bound vineyards of this newly ascendant wine region requires a tolerance for extreme conditions. The resulting fruit has lower sugar levels, yielding wines of unique intensity and finesse. Winemaker Anthony Austin has handcrafted this rare small-batch Pinot Noir from three vineyards of Pommard and Dijon clones, aging his blend in the finest French oak.
Sense
Nutmeg and allspice add depth to this cool-climate wine's elegant floral notes of violet and pansy.
Savor
This silky red blends weightless tannins with measured acidity for a stable palate enhanced with raspberry and dusky spice.
Serve
The soft, tender tannins in Pinot Noir make it the ultimate partner for leaner meats such as veal, pork, chicken and turkey; the earthy tones in a mushroom or truffle risotto also pair with it well. Alternatively, enjoy a glass of the Sonoma Coast with creamy cheeses like Brie or Camembert.
Serving Instructions
Serve slightly chilled (61°F), and, if consuming now, decant at least two hours before serving. This complex wine should be allowed to breathe.
