Story
This Malbec hails from Mendoza, Argentina’s main wine region. Mendoza is one of the drier places on Earth and not an obvious wine zone. But with peaks as high as nearly 23,000 feet, the Andes reach up to capture all precipitation moving east from the Pacific, holding it in the form of snow and ice. Gradual melting, which is dispersed through carefully managed irrigation canals, transforms this high-desert landscape into one of the world’s most prolific wine regions. Recuerdo is a collaboration between partners from Argentina and Napa Valley, which they like to refer to as a “Northern Hemisphere (38° North) meets Southern Hemisphere (32° South)” winemaking partnership. With legendary Argentinian winemaker Santiago Achaval at the helm, Recuerdo wines reflect the best of Mendoza.
Sense
A swirl of the glass releases aromas of black raspberries, currants and boysenberries with hints of leather and molasses.
Savor
Flavors of blueberry, black cherry, mushrooms and coffee unfurl on the palate.
Serve
Grilled steak makes a natural companion to the bold character of Argentinian Malbec. Any strongly flavored beef dish, such as beef ribs or richly sauced steak, will also work. Searing on the grill until the meat takes on a crisp, smoky crust ensures that the meat will marry with the oaky toast in the wine. Serving Instructions
Decant 1 hour before serving, and serve a little cooler than room temperature: refrigerate the decanted wine for 15 minutes.
