Additional Wine Information

Story
Formed when winemaking scions Michel Morey and Fabienne Coffinet married in 1979, Morey-Coffinet is headed up by Michel and his son, Thibault. In the famous Côte de Beaune village of Chassagne-Montrachet, the Moreys own a small piece of a well-known premier cru site called La Romanée. It’s one of several vineyards in Burgundy with the same name-all of which reference the Roman presence in this region long ago. Located on the steep sides of a limestone heap called La Grande Montagne, the Moreys’ precious 1.7 acres of ancient Chardonnay vines provide enough fruit to make around 400 cases of white wine each year. Once crushed and fermented, the fruit is aged in oak barrels in the stone-lined cellar of the centuries-old Morey home.
Sense
The wine offers up classic white Burgundy aromas of lemon curd, fresh butter and apples.
Savor
Creamy richness meets juicy, lemon-inflected vibrancy on a medium-bodied palate. Pear, apple, fresh butter and citrus notes gain depth from a hint of honey.
Serve
The Morey-Coffinet Chardonnay makes a terrific accompaniment to rich fish, pork, poultry and veal, as well as creamy pasta, risotto and polenta dishes. To bring out the wine’s pure fruit flavors and minerally complexity, serve foods with mild flavors and a bit of richness. Excellent choices include Farfalle with Veal and Pine Nuts; Mushroom Bread Pudding; Salmon and Corn Chowder; and Butternut Squash, Sage and Hazelnut Risotto.
