Story
Family owned and run for ten generations, Louis Latour is a legendary Burgundy producer. This rare wine comes from Latour-owned sites on the famous hill of Corton. The slopes of Corton rise near the town of Aloxe-Corton in the Côte de Beaune, part of the Côte d’Or. The entire hill is designated as a grand cru and is subdivided into plots that identify the part of the hill from which a wine comes. Many of these named sites, or lieux-dits, evoke the illustrious history of Corton’s vines: Charlemagne’s favorite site is still called “Clos du Roi,” (“the king’s enclosure”), while the “Clos des Papes” once belonged to the popes of Avignon. Latour owns rows of vines in several lieux-dits, including the legendary Clos du Roi; its Corton is always a blend of barrels selected from different parts of the hill, with the goal of creating a consistently superb wine regardless of vintage. Just 20 barrels of this wine were made.
