Chardonnay Lake County Juicy Medium-Bodied White
Echoing the wine’s scent, tropical flourishes of pineapple and Meyer lemon zest resound on the tongue. The texture is creamy, but the wine’s acidity keeps the structure taut. Sweet, creamy notes round out the finish.

Additional Wine Information

Story
Once relatively unknown for wine, Lake County has been generating a buzz among Northern California wine enthusiasts for the last few years. Home to fertile but not overly rich volcanic and sedimentary soils and the same climate as Napa Valley, Lake County is attracting savvy wine producers who don’t want to pay or charge Napa’s steep costs. Bordered by Napa, Sonoma and Mendocino counties, Lake County had a thriving wine industry in the late 1800s that was wounded by the massive 1906 earthquake and later, by Prohibition. Ceàgo Vinegarden owner Jim Fetzer grew up picking, pruning and crushing grapes, and by the age of 16 presided as winemaker for his family’s business. He learned to value the importance of responsible farming and became a pioneer in sustainable viticulture. Fetzer’s 163-acre estate, farmed organically and biodynamically, is a model for California’s next generation of winemaking.
Sense
Pineapple and lemon blossom form the heart of the wine’s aroma, supported by hints of white peach and papaya.
Savor
Echoing the wine’s scent, tropical flourishes of pineapple and Meyer lemon zest resound on the tongue. The texture is creamy, but the wine’s acidity keeps the structure taut. Sweet, creamy notes round out the finish.
Serve
The Ceàgo Vinegarden Chardonnay is both firm and robust, making it a perfect match for soft, rich foods like halibut with lemon-caper sauce or seared scallops with brown butter and corn. Its tropical notes will complement shrimp scampi or fish with fruit salsa. The wine’s straightforward nature pairs well with simple fare like roast chicken with potatoes or watercress salad with mustard vinaigrette.
