Story
Coastal Chile is perhaps one of the most exciting wine regions in the world today. Recent vintages have shown the stunning potential of the country's terroir, and its wines offer excellent values. This bright, silky Viognier comes from the Limarí Valley, one of the country's emerging regional stars. Modern-day vineyards were first planted there in the early 1990s. Unusually, the valley runs east-west, from the foothills of the Andes to the Pacific coast. This gap pulls cool ocean air into the warm interior, providing just the right balance of warm days and refreshing nights for ripening grapes. Founded in 1993, Tabalí was one of the first wineries in the Limarí Valley and is now a flagship estate in the region. Owned by prominent Chilean businessman Guillermo Luksic and the San Pedro Tarapaca Wine Group, the winery has benefited from some of the most complete soil analyses undertaken in Chile. These were used to create ideal matches between grape varieties and the estate's vineyard sites. Winemaker Felipe Müeller aged this Viognier entirely in stainlesssteel tanks, so the wine's pure fruit flavors shine through.
Sense
Lightly tropical, with citrus and star fruit aromas, this wine has a light floral accent that reminds us of honeysuckle blossoms.
Savor
Crisper and less rich than many Viogniers, the Tabalí exhibits a vibrant mix of pure pineapple and tangerine fruit flavors with a gentle kick of white pepper spice.
Serve
With its racy palate, the Tabalí Viognier is a great partner to light dishes that balance richness with acidity, such as a goat cheese tart, creamy shellfish, and fish and poultry dishes that include a squeeze of citrus juice or vinegar. Lemon risotto, gently spicy curries and baked root vegetables or squash also make wonderful pairings. Alternatively, fish or poultry accented with tropical fruits and warm spices (cinnamon, clove, nutmeg), such as those in many chutneys, will play to the Tabalí Viognier's combination of spice and fruit flavors.
