The original consultant behind some of the country’s most coveted cult brands (Screaming Eagle, Dalla Valle and Grace Family Vineyards, to name a few), winemaker Heidi Barrett also has her own, La Sirena. Thanks to our Napa Valley connections, we were able to acquire a small amount of Barrett’s fabulous Syrah. A longtime fan of the grape, Barrett makes three different small-lot bottlings, each reflective of its unique terroir: the Santa Ynez Mountains, northern Napa Valley and Barrett Vineyard. The rarest and most complex of the three, the last comes from Barrett’s own two-acre vineyard at the foot of Mount St. Helena. Although located in one of the warmer spots in Napa Valley, where temperatures tend to create fruity, jammy reds, the vineyard yielded a wine of balance and polish.
