Additional Wine Information

Story
Beaujolais is best known for the light, fruity wine that is released each November right after the harvest, called Beaujolais Nouveau, but the region also produces bigger wines with more complexity. The best of these are Beaujolais crus--wines from ten designated villages (crus). This offering from Henry Fessy hails from Château des Reyssiers, a single ancient vineyard in the cru village of Régnié. Currently owned by the Latour family, this 300-year-old estate comprises 35 acres. Like all Beaujolais red-grape vineyards, Château des Reyssiers is planted to Gamay, a variety that yields supple wines loaded with red fruit and berry flavors. This bottling owes its excellence in part to near-perfect weather conditions in 2009. A long, warm and trouble-free vintage resulted in some of the best Beaujolais crus in decades.
Sense
Vibrant plum and berry aromas get a bit of spicy complexity from white pepper and cardamom notes.
Savor
This lush and rich Beaujolais unfurls juicy, medium-bodied flavors of plum and raspberry, a silky texture and fine, spicy tannins.
Serve
The Gamay grape's soft tannins and high acidity yield very food-friendly wines. The Henry Fessy's concentration and depth of flavor stand up to lamb, game and beef, as well as pork, poultry and veal. The wine's fresh acidity and hint of spiciness suggest bold seasonings (fresh-cracked pepper, baking spices, ginger and cardamom), but simply flavored chops, roasts and stews will be terrific with it too.
Serving Instructions
Serve lightly chilled: refrigerate the bottle for 20 minutes before serving.
