Story
This gorgeous red wine comes from an ancient, recently revitalized estate in Chianti Classico. The Classico area is a small, prestigious subzone that represents the boundaries of the original Chianti region before the wine district was enlarged in 1932. Festeggiata is located in Panzano, a hilltop town between Florence and Siena. The winery’s vineyards are planted to ancient Sangiovese vines that were nursed back to prime condition by an expert team, including California-trained winemaker Alyson Morgan. After getting her winemaking degree from the premier enology program at the University of California, Davis, Morgan followed her passion for Italian wines to Tuscany, doing stints at Chianti stalwarts like Uggiano before joining Festeggiata in 2003.

A swirl of the glass releases aromas of cherries and leather and a light floral note of violets.

Cherry and plum flavors are lifted by perky acidity and bolstered by polished tannins. Notes of clove, red earth and cigar box spice add depth to the bright fruit tones.
Serve
Sangiovese is one of the few wines with enough acidity to stand up to tomatoes, an ingredient that can make lower-acid reds taste metallic and flat. In addition to classic Tuscan dishes like tomato-based ragus and meaty pasta sauces, the Festeggiata Chianti Classico will be delicious with herb-rubbed roasts, chops or steaks of beef, lamb, pork or game.
