Story
Best known for Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, Napa Valley is also home to varieties like Sangiovese, the chief grape in this small-lot red. Sourced primarily from a single one-acre vineyard in Napa's cooler southern tip, the Enkidu Rosso Fazekas takes inspiration from Chianti, the Italian region where Sangiovese stars. In the Fazekas Vineyard, cool breezes from San Pablo Bay moderate Napa's hot days, allowing Sangiovese grapes to retain their acidity. At the same time, abundant sunshine and unique soils help give the Enkidu Rosso Fazekas ripe, berry-rich flavors indicative of its California origins. Small additions of Petite Sirah--also grown in the Fazekas Vineyard--and Syrah lend tannic structure and depth and add complexity.

Swirling the glass releases aromas of black currants and cherries, along with herbal notes.

Serve
Bold enough to stand up to beef or lamb, the Enkidu Rosso Fazekas is also a good partner to lighter dishes made from chicken or pork. And thanks to its natural acidity, this red can handle tomato-based foods too. If possible, incorporate fresh or dried herbs to complement the wine's herbaceousness.
