Additional Wine Information

Story
The Casey Flat Ranch is an exciting new project in the Capay Valley of California. Hardly known even to wine aficionados, the Capay Valley lies in Yolo County, just east of Napa Valley. The vineyards of Casey Flat Ranch, which were planted in 2004, occupy moderately rocky soils on a 2,000-foot slope. While moving eastward in California generally means pushing into hotter climes, the altitude provides for cool temperatures that are reportedly equivalent to top Napa subregions like Oakville and Rutherford and even cooler than St. Helena, which is just over 20 miles west of the site. Grapes from these vineyards are blended with lots from Napa’s Howell Mountain, Oak Knoll and Atlas Peak districts. The result is a harmonious and engaging wine that offers a picture of the great potential of this area of northern California.
Sense
Mint and cedar spice aromas hover over a base of black cherry, dark plum and cassis.
Savor
Sumptuous berry-fruit flavors are garnished with mocha, tobacco and smoke.
Serve
The Casey Flat Ranch blend is fruity and approachable enough to be enjoyed on its own but will really shine when paired with food. The wine’s dark fruit makes it the perfect match for meat seared on the grill, as the rich berry sweetness embraces any crispy char. Cabernet’s savory side, expressed here with hints of licorice and olive, makes it a good choice for lamb chops, veal and earthy cuts of beef like hanger or flank steaks. Marinades or rubs featuring garlic, soy and herbs will highlight the wine’s fruit.
