Story
Located on Northern California’s Highway 29, Alpha Omega’s winery and tasting room occupies a prime spot between two of Napa’s biggest names: Beaulieu Vineyard and Franciscan Estate. Two wine veterans with long histories in both Napa and the Central Coast created Alpha Omega (“AO”) in 2006 to make outstanding small-lot wines. While the owners were fortunate to purchase 12 acres on the Rutherford plot that contains the winery, they also source fruit from other appellations. This Chardonnay has its origins in Hudson Vineyard of Carneros, Caldwell Vineyard of the Coombsville subregion, and Los Olivos Ranch of Jameson Canyon. Each of these subzones is in Napa’s cool southern end, close to the chilling influence of San Pablo Bay, which keeps the wine racy and taut. The wine is made by Jean Hoefliger, a Swiss who worked around the world and trained in Bordeaux before landing in Napa. He’s assisted by world-famous “flying winemaker” Michel Rolland.

Serve the Alpha Omega Chardonnay with luxurious mild-flavored dishes based on shellfish, flaky white fish or poultry. Rich starches like egg pasta, Arborio rice or puff pastry will also work well.
