Story
The Godello grape of Valdeorras may be obscure, but connoisseurs know that it makes some of the most complex and compelling white wines of Spain. Unlike the famous Albarino of the coastal Rias Baixas areas, Godello, which is sensitive to moisture, grows best in the drier inland climes and steep hillsides around the river Sil. Indigenous to the region, Godello is one of Spain’s oldest varieties, dating back to antiquity. Naturally lowyielding, it produces intense minerally wines that can age well. Family-owned Valdesil is one of the standout producers of Godello— an ancestor began working with the grape in 1885. Over the generations, vineyards have been planted, then sold off. The family recently bought them back and consolidated one of Galicia’s great domaines.
Sense
The nose offers a melange of apple, pear, citrus zest, jasmine and green tea.
Savor

Serve
Godello is unusual because it melds the briskness and buoyancy of a lighter white wine with the richness of a heavier white. This combination comes from the wine’s extreme minerality and clean, sharp flavors. Consequently, Godello is fantastic with the kind of rich seafood that comes into its own in the winter and spring—oysters, crab and lobster—though it works with practically anything from the sea. Serving Instructions
Serve well chilled: refrigerate the bottle for 45 minutes before serving.
